SaskEnergy Maintenance

SaskEnergy Controlled Flares in the North West

Oct 13, 2020 | 8:41 AM

SaskEnergy will be conducting a series of controlled flares in the northwest area of Saskatchewan in order to perform scheduled maintenance work on the Corporations transmission system:

· October 14th from 2:00 to 10:00 a.m.

– Six miles northeast of Leoville

– One mile southwest of Debden

· October 15th from 4:00 to 10:00 a.m.

– Eight miles south of Goodsoil

– ½ mile north of Rapid View

During this pipeline maintenance process, SaskEnergy will release natural gas from its infrastructure at each location in a controlled burn called a flare. While the gas lines will be isolated from the remainder of the system, flaring is required to remove the remaining gas from the line before work can begin.

Flaring is an industry standard procedure when natural gas needs to be released from a gas line and reduces the carbon footprint of the vented natural gas by 85 per cent.

Residents and drivers in the areas may see up to a 40-foot flare being emitted from the 40-foot flare stacks temporarily attached to SaskEnergy block-valves at these locations.

The area around the flares will be supervised to ensure public safety.

SaskEnergy has notified local Emergency Responders of the upcoming events. There will be no disruptions to natural gas service to customers in the area during this process.
