49 people in Hospital

With spread of COVID-19 increasing, province will announce additional public health measures

Tomorrow, the province is expected to announce further restrictive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

There are 111 new COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan reported today, Nov. 12. The new amount brings the provincial total to 4,437 cases. The new cases are in the Far North West (five), Far North Central (eight), Far North East (six), North West (seven), North Central (eight), Saskatoon (24), Central East (seven), Regina (25), South West (four), South Central (five) and South East (seven) zones.

Five new cases have pending residence information. A case reported on Nov. 10 with pending residence has been assigned to the Regina zone.

Of the total cases, 1,459 are considered active. There have been 2,949 recoveries.

There are 49 patients in hospital. Thirty-six of those patients are receiving inpatient care with one in the Far North West, one in the North West, five in North Central, three in North East, 20 in Saskatoon, three in Regina, one in the South West and two in the South East zone. There are 13 people in the intensive care unit with one in the North West, two in North Central, seven in Saskatoon, two in Central East and one in Regina.

Of the total cases, 401 are travellers, 2,014 are community contacts (including mass gatherings), 974 have no known exposures, and 1,048 are under investigation by local public health.

Across the province, 127 cases are healthcare workers; however, the source of the infections may not be related to healthcare in all instances. There are 900 cases involving people 19 years of age and under, while the remainder are adults. There are 1,641 cases are in the 20 to 39 age range; 1,242 are in the 40 to 59 age range; 544 are in the 60 to 79 age range; and 110 are in the 80-plus range. Fifty-one per cent of the cases are females and 49 per cent are males. There have been 29 deaths related to COVID-19 reported to date.

Of all the confirmed cases,

• 1,232 cases are from the Saskatoon area
• 920 cases are from the north area (302 north west, 446 north central, 172 north east)
• 667 cases are from the Regina area
• 593 cases are from the south area (247 south west, 248 south central, 98 south east)
• 554 cases are from the far north area (452 far north west, 17 far north central, 85 far north east)
• 455 cases are from the central area (203 central west, 252 central east)
• 16 cases have pending residence information

To date, there have been 289,366 COVID-19 tests performed in Saskatchewan. Yesterday, the province performed 2,145 tests.

Restrictive measures coming

Officials with the province’s Ministry of Health and Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Saqib Shahab are currently considering further health measures to reduce the transmission of the virus in the province. The new measures will be announced tomorrow, Nov. 13.

NITHA communities

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority released their daily COVID-19 update that are specific to their communities.

According to their Facebook page, there are eighteen active cases in the Far North Central, and 20 active cases in the Far North West (two of which are in hospital).

There are 20 active cases in the Far North East (two of which are in hospital), 25 active cases in the North Central, and 23 cases are active in the North East.

There have been 206 cases recovered.

NITHA is comprised of the Prince Albert Grand Council, Meadow Lake Tribal Council, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, and Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
