Lucie Perry was born in France January 24, 1924. Her father bred horses of quality and I believe Lucie was an equestrian rider. During world war II, Lucie saw first hand the German invasion.
Her family took what would fit on a motor car and headed South, only to find the Germans ahead of them. They turned around and went back home to find the rest of their possessions gone – quite a lot had been taken by neighbors who returned it. Lucie was 21 when the war ended and she went to England for some time.
In 1954 Lucie came to Canada in time to see Hurricane Hazel on October 18 in Toronto. She went on to Fergus, Ontario and during the following years she acquired an old dairy farm which she filled with Charolais cattle. At some point Lucie had married and divorced. She lived in Fergus with her mother after the cattle farm sold. Guelph was close by and Lucie took accounting classes at University where she met Brian Perry who was taking apiary classes.
October 23, 1958 Lucie had become a Canadian Citizen and on December 28, 1979 she married Brian. The following years saw a move to the Loon River where they enjoyed life – Brian with the bees and Lucie with cooking, knitting and even had a spinning wheel.
Brian passed away in June 2010 at which time Lucie moved into Villa 1 in Meadow Lake, where she resided until December 2017. She was hospitalized until June 2018 when she was moved to the Northland Pioneers Lodge, where she passed away November 13, 2020.
