Saskatchewan Country Closeup – Berk Jodoin
Imagine if Steve Earle was a Metis man hailing from Saskatchewan. That’s what you get in a Berk Jodoin song. A no nonsense, heart and soul type of guy. With his guitar in hand, he writes and sings about the world as he sees and feels it. His songs are like a breath of fresh air.
Berk Jodoin grew up in the small, northern community of Pierceland. A town much like all the other picturesque towns throughout Canada. But in this community started the incubation that would become the back bone of Berk’s stylistic writing. “I write what I know, and I write what I see, not many fairy tales go into my songs.” Among the songs is one of Berks favorites that he has penned called “Sisters”. This song takes on the task of shedding light on our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. The song is written from the perspective of the families of these missing women and illustrates the pain that is felt when we lose one of our “Sisters”. It is carefully crafted and includes a Cree honor song performed by traditional Cree singers from Big Island Lake Cree Territory.
Berk is set to break into the Canadian music scene in a big way with his self-titled debut album. Berk has been hard at work over the past year preparing for the December 2020 release of the album. It was all written, produced, recorded, and mastered within the province. This album is 100% Saskatchewan grown! This is a work that Berk is proud of and is sure to leave an impression on all who hear it.
