Stick It To COVID campaign features P.A. Elder

Apr 9, 2021 | 5:00 PM

A 90-year-old Elder living in Prince Albert is currently appearing in the provincial government’s Stick It To COVID campaign.

A Lac La Ronge Indian Band member, Emily Cummings has her photos on billboards in Prince Albert and she’s also included in a recently published 30-second YouTube video. The series of Stick It To COVID advertisements feature real Saskatchewan people talking about what the vaccine means to them and why they are looking forward to a return to normal.

Cummings has already received both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.

“They said it was a good thing to get it so you won’t get really sick or maybe you can live a little bit longer,” she said. “I love my grandchildren, especially the little ones and I thought I’ll get these needles they want to give me, so maybe I’ll see my grandchildren grow up a little bit bigger before I am gone.”

Cummings explained she became involved with the campaign after one of her grandchildren reached out to her about the possibility. She didn’t know at the time it would feature billboards, as well as print, radio and digital advertising, but she is thankful to take part in it.

With mass vaccinations in Saskatchewan underway, Cummings hopes people won’t be hesitant when it comes to receiving a vaccine. She said it would be nice for life to return to normal and that she prays for everyone during this time.

Saskatchewan’s vaccine delivery plan continues to roll out with the vaccine intended to be available to all eligible adults by the end of May.

“Saskatchewan residents know that the COVD-19 vaccine is the best way to return to normal,” Premier Scott Moe said in a news release published Friday. “I’d like to thank the real Saskatchewan people participating in this campaign, and all residents across our province that are choosing to roll up their sleeves to stick it to COVID.”
