Unvaccinated and under 40 represent majority of new COVID-19 cases

With 519 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported today, the province is reporting another high day of cases with today taking the second highest day currently recorded.

Of the new cases, 78 per cent of new cases among the unvaccinated and 66 per cent in Saskatchewan residents under 40.

Of the new cases, 181 are in the northern zones of the province; Far North West (23), Far North Central (one), Far North East (21), North West (63), North Central (53), and North East (20).

These new cases now brings the total number of active cases in Northern Saskatchewan to 1,900.

Two new deaths were also reported today bringing the provincial death total to 641 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 having died and a provincial case fatality rate of 1.0 per cent.

The new totals today brings the provincial total to 62,620 cases; 4,672 cases considered active and 57,307 cases considered recovered.

Nearly one-third (32.9 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20-39.

Approximately one in five (19.3 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated.

NITHA Data

As of Sept. 19, there are 18 new cases to report today in NITHA communities. Twelve (67 per cent) were unvaccinated, two (11 per cent) are partially vaccinated and four (22 per cent) were fully vaccinated.

There are 378 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 12; Far North West, 55; Far North East, 207; North Central, 67; and North East, 37. There are 5,205 cases (93 per cent) recovered, and 12 people are hospitalized.

There are 14 active cases of COVID-19 Variants of Concern (VOCs) in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central; 0, Far North West, four; and Far North East, five; North Central, four; and North East, one.
