One-hundred new cases of COVID-19 reported today, 20 in Northern regions

One-hundred new cases of COVID-19 were reported today by the provincial government.

Sixty-two of the cases identified are among unvaccinated individuals with 29 among children between the ages of 0-11.

Twenty new cases are located in Northern Saskatchewan; Far North West (one), Far North East (two), North West (nine), North Central (seven), and North East (one).

There are currently 1,527 cases are considered active — 138 less than yesterday — with 436 cases currently active in the Northern Saskatchewan regions.

One new death reported today brings the provincial total to 873 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

Since the pandemic began there has been 78,824 reported cases and after 237 cases recovered today, 76,424 total cases are now considered recovered.

Almost one-third (29 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 11 years or under.

Almost one-half (45.1 per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged 12 years and older) were fully vaccinated. As of today, 80 per cent of elligible residents have received at least two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

As of Nov. 8, a total of 191 individuals are hospitalized; including 140 inpatient hospitalizations, and 51 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 191 patients, 128 (67.0 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

In addition to Sask. ICUs, there are 18 residents in out-of-province ICUs. As these patients are receiving care out of province, this number is not included in the hospitalization counts in the dashboard.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported two new cases in NITHA communities; one (50 per cent) were unvaccinated and one (50 per cent) that are fully vaccinated.

There are 80 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities.

These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, 21; Far North East, 12; North Central, 41; and North East, six. There have been 6,757 cases (98 per cent) that have recovered, and four people are being hospitalized.

Athabasca Health Authority

As of Nov. 8 there remains no new or active cases of COVID-19 in Athabasca communities. The region now has nearly 50 per cent of their population fully vaccinated against COVID-19 according to a recent press release. Black Lake remains at 35 per cent fully vaccinated, a rate well below the target of 60 per cent while Fond Du Lac is at 58 per cent. Camsell Portage, Stony Rapids, and Uranium City are between 87 to 100 per cent of the population fully vaccinated.
