Traffic stop leads to multiple arrests, drug seizure
Four individuals were arrested and thousands of dollars of drugs were seized near Big Island Lake Cree Territory on Wednesday.
That morning police received a report from Big Island Lake Security of a suspicious dark SUV and soon after tried to attempt a traffic stop. The vehicle drove away and was pursued by RCMP units, eventually going down a trail in a nearby forested area and becoming stuck in deep snow.
After trying to deter police, all four individuals were arrested northeast of the community. Officers searched the vehicle and found 41 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 50 grams of crack cocaine and 1.2 grams of suspected fentanyl/heroin. The rough street value of the seizure is at least more than $6,300, according to the Global Drug Survey 2019.
Pierceland RCMP’s Cpl. David Horton told battlefordsNOW the arrest is important for getting drugs off the street, given the effect even a small amount can make on a small community. In a media release, he thanked the community for their vigilance.
