Province reports 59 new cases of COVID-19 today, 52 per cent among vaccinated persons

The province is reporting another 59 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 today, 52 per cent of which are among vaccinated individuals.

Three new cases are located in northern Saskatchewan; the North West (one) and North Central (two).

There are currently 565 cases considered active in the province, which includes 91 cases in Saskatchewan’s northern zones. This is an 11 case drop from yesterday’s provincial total and a three drop of cases in the north.

No new deaths were reported today leaving the provincial total to 942 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 who have died.

New cases today brings the total to 82,267 reported cases since the pandemic began. This includes 19,990 cases are from the North area (8,872 North West, 8,268 North Central, 2,850 North East); 9,398 cases are from the Far North area (4,421 Far North West, 541 Far North Central, 4,436 Far North East); and 80,760 cases are considered recovered.

More than one-third (35.6 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

More than one-half (55.4. per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged five years and older) were fully vaccinated.

As of Dec. 20, a total of 102 individuals are hospitalized; including 70 inpatient hospitalizations, and 32 ICU hospitalizations. Of the 102 patients, 63 (61.8 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

In addition to Sask. ICUs, there is no resident in an out-of-province ICU.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 19, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) has reported no new cases in NITHA communities.

There are seven active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, seven; Far North East, 0; North Central, 0; and North East, 0. There have been 6,882 cases (99 per cent) have recovered. There are currently no hospitalizations.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
