Of 67 new COVID-19 cases in province, four reported in northern zones; one death

As of Dec. 21, there are 67 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, 30 cases are among unvaccinated individuals.

Four new cases are located in northern Saskatchewan; the North West (two) and North East (two).

One new death reported today bringing the provincial total to 943 Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died.

There are currently 556 cases considered active, a drop of nine cases from yesterday’s total. There were also 75 reported recoveries today.

More than two-fifth (46.3 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

More than one-half (56.5. per cent) of new cases eligible for vaccination (aged five years and older) were fully vaccinated.

COVID-19 Summary for Dec. 21, 2021:

From Dec. 15–21, 10,176 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given in Saskatchewan, bringing the total number of vaccines administered in the province to 1,787,369. An additional 58,403 third and fourth doses have been administered in the province.

As of Dec. 14, 88 per cent of residents 12 years and older and 83 per cent of residents five years older have received their first dose. Eighty-three per cent of residents 12 years and older and 75 per cent of residents five years and older are fully vaccinated.

There were 433 new cases of COVID-19 to report in Saskatchewan from Dec. 15–21, bringing the provincial total to 82,334 cases. There were 422 recoveries recorded during the same period.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan is currently 62 (5.1 per 100,000).

Two new deaths were reported Dec. 15–21.

There were 288 new lineage results reported for Dec. 15–21.

As of Dec. 21, there are 98 people in hospital: 67 are receiving inpatient care and 31 are in intensive care. Fifty-eight of the people in hospital (59.2 per cent) are not fully vaccinated.

Since Oct. 25, 26 monoclonal antibody infusion treatments have been delivered. There was an error in a previously reported number, which has been corrected.

From Dec. 15–21, there were 11,136 COVID-19 tests processed in Saskatchewan.

NITHA numbers

As of Dec. 20, the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) has reported no new cases in NITHA communities.

There are seven active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), 0; Far North West, seven; Far North East, 0; North Central, 0; and North East, 0. There have been 6,890 cases (99 per cent) have recovered. There are currently no hospitalizations.

Athabasca Health Authority

Athabasca Health Authority (AHA) continues to report no new or active COVID-19 cases. However, Taiwo Olubanwo, AHA executive director of Primary Health Care continues to encourage people to get their vaccinations.
