Saskatchewan exceeds a thousand COVID-19 related deaths as 837 new cases reported

With four new deaths reported today, the total of Saskatchewan residents with COVID-19 have died is now at 1,001.

Another 837 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed today in Saskatchewan with 79 located in the six northern zones of the province.

These new cases are located in the Far North West (three), Far North East (eight), North West (34), North Central (30), and North East (four).

Of the 837 new cases reported today, 147 were unvaccinated or fewer than 21 days after their first dose, 23 had received their first dose or were less than 21 days from their second dose, 346 were fully vaccinated (more than 14 days since their second dose) and 321 were fully vaccinated and more than 14 days from receiving their booster dose.

Active number of cases have dropped by 83 cases from yesterday’s total with 10,271 cases now considered active. Of those cases, 1,965 are cumulatively located in the six northern zones of the province.

Just over one-third (34.5 per cent) of new cases are in the age category of 20 to 39.

Hospitalizations jumped by 12 cases for a total of 384 individuals now being hospitalized in relation to COVID-19. There are 347 inpatient: of those, 137 inpatient hospitalizations are a COVID-19-related illness, 189 are incidental COVID 19 infections, and 21 have not yet been determined. There are also 36 residents in ICUs: of those, 28 are for COVID-19-related illnesses, and eight are for incidental COVID-19 infections. One resident is in PICU/NICU for COVID-19 related illnesses.

Of the total hospitalizations, 131 (34.1 per cent) were not fully vaccinated.

NITHA numbers

The Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) reported six new cases in NITHA communities on Feb. 2.

There are 35 active cases of COVID-19 in NITHA communities. These cases are located in the Far North Central (Athabasca), five, Far North West, 10; Far North East, 12; North Central, eight; and North East, 0. There have been 7,726 cases (99 per cent) recovered, and there are two hospitalizations.
