ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — The leader of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Progressive Conservative party has won a seat in the provincial legislature.

Ches Crosbie won a byelection Thursday in the riding of Windsor Lake, in the St. John’s area.

The 65-year-old lawyer became party leader in April.

Crosbie is the son of Tory giant John Crosbie, who served in the cabinets of former prime ministers Joe Clark and Brian Mulroney and ran for the leadership of the federal party.
