Province reports 2,522 new cases of COVID-19 in weekly report

The Government of Saskatchewan has released its second weekly epidemiological report, which is a deeper analysis into COVID-19 in the province.

This report features data from Sunday, Feb. 6 to Saturday, Feb. 12. and the hospitalization data is a comparison from Wednesday, Feb. 9 to Feb. 16, 2022.

There were 2,522 new cases of COVID. There were also 242 new lineage results this week and of those variants of concern, 99.6 per cent were Omicron.

There were 12,079 lab tests done in Saskatchewan, which means 10 tests were given per 1,000 people. The number of tests was just over two-thirds of the number of tests in the previous week.

The province said one-fifth of the lab tests were positive, which is down from the roughly 30 per cent positivity rate from the week before.

Based on the data collected by public health, there were 42 new deaths which is nearly twice the number from the previous report.

As for hospitalizations, nearly 40 of every 1,000 people who needed treatment at an emergency department were dealing with a COVID-like illness.

In long-term care and care home settings, there were 22 new outbreaks. This is down from the 34 reported previously.

As of Feb. 12, over 85 per cent of those who are five years and older have at least one dose of the vaccine and around 50 per cent of people eligible for a booster shot have gotten one.

There were also 34 paxlovid prescriptions and 189 monoclonal antibody infusion treatments as of Feb. 14.
