Coast 2 Coast Closeup – Amy Hef
After 15 years of writing, recording and performing across North America, Amy Hef is moving in a new musical direction with the upbeat love song “Between Us”.
Penned by Hef and her brother, LA-based artist and producer Doug Heffernan, the catchy country single is all about never losing the initial spark you have with a person when you first connect. A special connection you have with someone might last a night, a year, a lifetime, and it might even be a secret, but a spark is something to embrace.
“I felt that a lot of my storytelling was getting lost in the pop and EDM formats. Even though I love those genres of music, country is where I have found my new home,” says Hef.
The Saskatchewan-born, Alberta-dwelling musician teamed up with award-winning producers Dave Temple and Johnny Gasparic at MCC Recording Studios in Calgary to bring this countrified love song to life.
“Being able to create a song in a genre of music that I love so much has reignited my own spark as an artist,” she says. “My fans know that I love to bring the party, so I hope new listeners are excited for this new single. The party starts now, country music!”
A household name in the Canadian pop industry, the singer released her debut EP back in 2008, but prior to that was a professional drummer who toured North America. It was while on tour that she began songwriting and decided to embark on her own path as a solo artist.
In 2013, Hef was named the winner of the 6th annual 90.3 AMP Radio’s Rock Star. The grand prize helped reinforce the fact that venturing into a solo career was the right creative decision to make.
Her 2014 single “Creepin’ Me Out” went into heavy rotation at pop radio stations across the country and the 2017 release “Drunk On Conversation” currently has over 250,000 streams across Spotify and Apple Music. Over the years, the singer’s music has earned placements in famous television series such as Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Vanderpump Rules and other MTV programming.
