Province to move to monthly COVID reports starting in July

As the number of COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan declines, so will the number of COVID updates provided by the Ministry of Health.

In Thursday’s weekly epidemiological report, the provincial government revealed it was moving from weekly updates to monthly reports.

“In recent weeks, COVID-19 surveillance indicators suggest a decreasing trend in COVID-19 infections,” the ministry said in its report. “As we move into the summer months, the Ministry of Health will be transitioning to monthly COVID-19 situation reports.”

The province moved from daily reporting to weekly updates in early February.

The final weekly report will be issued on June 30. It will be followed by a three-week report on July 21 and the first monthly report on Aug. 18.

“Saskatchewan residents should continue to do their own personal risk assessment over the summer,” chief medical health officer Dr. Saqib Shahab said in a statement.

“We will continue to ensure that people have access to information on a monthly basis, through detailed public health analysis, and more frequent reporting if concerning trends emerge.”

Meanwhile, in the latest weekly report, the province confirmed 231 new cases in the past week. Most lab-confirmed cases were in those 50 years and older at 59.3 per cent.

The province also reported 12 deaths, three from the past week and nine that were previously unreported from February 20 to June 11. Last week, 17 deaths were reported.

Immunization numbers have remained stable over the last month. Of those eligible for the vaccine, 81.1 per cent have received their two initial shots, while 52.7 per cent have received at least one booster.

The province also provided numbers on its anti-viral COVID prescriptions. As of June 19, 557 Paxlovid prescriptions have been given along with 43 Remdesivir prescriptions.
