Third flight of Ukrainians to arrive in Saskatchewan on Tuesday

The third of five flights carrying people from war-torn Ukraine to Saskatchewan is to arrive in Regina on Tuesday evening.

The provincial government said about 200 people are expected to be on the flight. After they arrive, they’ll be able to visit a settlement reception centre where they can get questions answered about Saskatchewan health cards, bank accounts, housing, employment, education, income assistance, community supports and more.

“The people and businesses of Saskatchewan are once again prepared to welcome these refugees to our province and our communities,” Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said in a media release.

“We expect they will settle across the province, just as we have experienced with the first two flights, and we are proud to offer them a sense of safety and security, something they have been missing for some time.”

Saskatchewan and the humanitarian organizations Open Arms and Solidaire are partners in the flights. A memorandum of understanding signed by the three parties means five humanitarian flights will arrive from Ukraine in the province by March 31 of next year.

After the third flight arrives, more than 2,000 displaced Ukrainians will have come to Saskatchewan since the war with Russia began.
