Some tickets still available for ML Hospital Foundation Gala

There are still a handful of tickets available for the annual Meadow Lake Festival of Trees Gala and Dance. The event is taking place this Saturday at the Meadow Lake Civic Centre. All proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of equipment for any health facilities under the management of the Prairie North Health Region.

This year marks the first time the Festival of Trees has taken place since before the pandemic. Organizers have used other methods to raise money during the pandemic including a golf tournament and a chase the ace fundraiser.

Meadow Lake Hospital Foundation board member Scott Campbell said the foundation is hoping to raise between $80,000 and $100,000 this year. He’s confident they will meet their goal thanks in part to the community’s generosity.

“There has been a great outpouring this year, of success [from] businesses and individuals, not just businesses, but individuals in the community that have donated a lot of great prizes, and a lot of great things for this to be a success,” he said.

All money raised will be used for equipment and capital projects. In the past, the foundation has contributed to the new lodge in Meadow Lake, for example.

Many of the contributions help improve the quality of life for residents in Northwest Saskatchewan. Campbell points to the addition of a dialysis unit.

“We also have a dialysis unit that they’ve added on to our hospital now, which will serve the whole northwest which is a huge thing, especially for people who live north of Meadow Lake. Instead of having to travel to Battleford or Saskatoon for dialysis, they can get that right here in Meadow Lake.”

There are a handful of tickets still available. They are $75 each. The gala starts Sat. November 26, 5 p.m. with cocktails. A Dance and auction will follow after the dinner at 6 p.m.

Organizers say they’re expecting close to 200 people so far. Campbell is appreciative of the support the community gives the foundation.

“We’re all going to use the hospital. This is something everybody can get behind. And the stuff we buy for the Meadow Lake hospital, it stays here,” Campbell said.
