Meadow Lake Hospital Foundation sees show of support

Dec 28, 2022 | 4:44 PM

Meadow Lake Hospital Foundation received a nice boost of support recently when Tolko Industries Ltd. donated $10,000.

Foundation vice-president Shelley Arnold said the funds will help purchase new equipment for the hospital.

“We were very pleased to receive that,” she said. “It will be included in our yearly fundraising.”

Arnold said the hospital foundation has a wish list each year of items it fundraises for to benefit patient care at the hospital.

“We try to help all the [hospital] departments in purchasing [items] that aren’t in the capital budget,” she said.

The foundation’s purchases in 2022 included a new operating room bed, a new electrocardiogram (ECG) machine for the X-ray department for patient care, and some operating room instruments that were needed, to name a few.

Arnold said the foundation is grateful for all the donations it receives.

“The community, over the last year, it’s been overwhelming how supportive they have been, especially coming out of the Covid [period],” she said. “We always say: ‘You may not benefit from something that has been purchased now, but you will benefit, or your family member will benefit.’ So, [the support] helps keep our hospital working smoother.”

In the foundation’s meeting in January, the team will find out what the new needs are for the hospital for the year ahead.

“The [foundation] team will sit down with the director of care and she will have some lists,” Arnold said.

The foundation held a number of fundraisers in 2022 including the Festival of Trees, which raised $79,000 alone. The $10,000 donation from Tolko mills was added to the festival total to bring it up to $89,000.

Coming up in January, the foundation will start preparing to run its Chase the Ace progressive lottery fundraiser again.

“I’m hoping to get it going early in the year, before spring,” Arnold said.
