SHA employee stole $15K from care home residents in Meadow Lake

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) considers a fraud case involving one of its employees to be concluded.

From 2016 to 2018, the SHA said an employee stole $15,636 by misappropriating funds from several residents’ trust accounts at a long-term care home in Meadow Lake.

The total amount was revealed in a loss of public money quarterly report from the province on Monday morning.

The fraud was discovered after a whistleblower complaint kickstarted an investigation which resulted in the Prairie North Regional Health Authority performing a detailed review of records.

After the employee in question was terminated, the RCMP began its investigation which resulted in an arrest and charges in March 2022. The employee pleaded guilty to the charges and paid restitution to SHA as ordered by the court.
