Netflix rolls out new fees for password sharing in Canada

Netflix took a bold step by implementing a system to crack down on password sharing in Canada. Customers who share their Netflix accounts across multiple households will have to pay an extra $8 a month.

Canadian users will be notified by email about the limitations on who can access their accounts outside their households starting today. One-person, one device, one location ad-supported plans will cost $5.99 per month in Canada. Without ads, the basic plan will cost $9.99 per month.

Streaming can be done on two devices at once under the company’s standard plan, which costs $16.99 per month. A fee of $7.99 per month will apply if they wish to watch in more than one location – for instance, at the home of a parent and the dorm room of their college-aged child, or between members of a couple who live separately.

There will be a limit of one additional user on the standard plan.
