Turning Point Youth Centre plans live music concert fundraiser

The Turning Point Youth Centre in Meadow Lake is getting geared up to host its third annual Turn Fest event on Saturday, April 1.

The show will include live music from: The Broken Lips, T.M.M.E, and some special youth guests.

“It’s going to be so much fun,” Executive Director Belinda Martin said. “The last time we did this event everyone really enjoyed it.”

Funds raised will help support the non-profit. The event will also be an opportunity to view some art on display that will be available for auction the week following.

The youth centre, for ages 13-18, provides young people a place to drop in and visit. Participants can access programming to develop life skills, participate in fun events, learn how to develop healthy relationships, and access resources in the community.

“It’s largely just a safe place for them to come hang out,” Martin said. “We [also] have counseling services available, and mentorship. There are all sorts of great things going on.”

People are encouraged to come check out the Turn Fest show. A specialty coffee bar with desserts will also be available for guests to grab a snack and beverage during the night.

The event will take place at the youth centre site, at 205-3 Street East #B, starting at 7 p.m.

The fundraiser will help keep the youth centre going, by supporting costs for operations.

“We just need the funds to keep our doors open, pay our bills and pay our staff so we have people [helping] at the centre,” Martin said.

Proceeds will also help provide snacks for kids dropping by the centre.

Tickets for Turn Fest can be purchased at the door, by cash alone. Admission is $20 per person, for those over the age of 18, and $15 for younger people attending.
