CRITICAL CARE ON THE AIR

Your support is needed during Critical Care on the Air radiothon

Apr 4, 2023 | 6:00 AM

For the third year in a row, the Critical Care on the Air Radiothon is taking over the airwaves.

The fundraiser takes place Tuesday and Wednesday across 39 stations, with funds going to support the work of STARS Air Ambulance.

“We’re hoping to raise funds similar to the past two years,” said Jeri-Lynn Johnstone, director of fundraising with STARS. “Since 2021, we have raised over $750,000.”

Johnstone added they are hoping to break the $1 million mark in total fundraising by the time the event ends. The goal for the 2023 fundraiser is to bring in $400,000

To say this radiothon is necessary for STARS is an understatement as only 50 per cent of their operating funds are covered by the government, meaning they fundraise the other half each year.

Johnstone said that every dollar counts.

“The funds that we raise this year ensure STARS will provide critical care anywhere, anytime across the province of Saskatchewan,” she said.

last year, STARS flew over 1,075 critical care missions and since 2012 has had more than 9,000 missions.

Johnstone said that without the support of donors and the community, they would not be able to fly.

“We often say that we are built by the community for the community and this is a great example of the community coming together.”
