FARLEY'S SUMMER VACATION

‘Where’s Farley?’ Meadow Lake Family Resource Centre shares the journey of its beloved teddy bear

For the past few years, families in Meadow Lake have embraced a fun tradition of a teddy bear and his wild journeys.

The bear, known as Farley, is with the Meadow Lake Early Years Family Resource Centre and was first introduced at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when families were forced to stay indoors.

Director Brooke Ebach said they wanted to find a way to stay connected to families during times of uncertainty and isolation.

In the first year, the Centre put Farley in different businesses in the city for families to find.

“It got businesses involved, got families into our centre to see what we were about,” said Ebach. “We did that for two years and then this year, we gained quite a bit of popularity with the centre itself.”

As a result of that popularity, Ebach said they decided to send the bear on different adventures with families from the Resource Centre.

“They take Farley on their adventures with them, snap a photo and send it to our social media pages,” she said. “We just want to see what they’re doing this summer, keep in touch with them, but also it gives families ideas of what to do in the summer.”

Farley’s adventures for the summer have so far taken him to community places like the Aurora Cinemas and the Library but also abroad to Yukon, Alaska, and Disneyland, just to name a few.

As for future plans for Farley, Ebach said they have a summer picnic planned for Aug. 30 at Lions Park and a few other activities still to be announced.

You can see those details and follow Farley’s ongoing adventures at the Meadow Lake Early Years Family Resource Centre on Facebook.
