Baby names are getting shorter and sweeter

Nicknames are the new full names, with Ellie overtaking Elizabeth and Eleanor, Josie outranking Josephine, and Theo outranking Theodore. Three-letter names also make waves with parents, including Teo, Koa, Jay, and Kai.

Travel is on the rise, but geographical names are down

Although travel has increased post-pandemic, names associated with popular cities and states around the world are seeing a sharp decline. The only name bucking this trend is Milan, which is up 223 spots to No. 460 for girls and up 46 spots to No. 256 for boys.

Barbie beat Oppenheimer at the box office – and in baby names

Barbie saw almost double the box office revenue as Oppenheimer and sparked more positive baby name trajectories.The “Barbenheimer” phenomenon inspired some baby names to climb the ranks, while others took a tumble. Barbie’s full name, Barbara, is up 994 spots, to No. 1,336; and names of female powerhouses in the Barbie universe are on the rise. Robert and Katherine Oppenheimer are down 29 and 18 spots, respectively.
