Bluegrass Festival and Camp Dates Set for August

Jul 15, 2016 | 9:25 AM

We are pleased to announce that the 11th annual Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music Festival will be held August 12 – 14, 2016 at the Ness Creek Site near Big River, Saskatchewan.

Following the festival, Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music Camp will be held August 15 – 19, 2016.

The exciting lineup this year includes: Tennessee’s Po’ Ramblin‘ Boys, who have just released a debut album on Randm Records; the sizzling fiddle playing family ensemble, The Fitzgeralds; Canadian acoustic champs, Annie Lou; Canadian Folk Music Award nominated Notre Dame de Grasse; the Montreal-based All Day Breakfast Stringband;  and Saskatoon’s very own Rugged Little Thing, an old timey duo who became engaged right on the Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music Festival stage!

Other highly anticipated performances include music by the gifted singer/song writer duo Andrew Sneddon and Mathew Hornell;  the high energy – high mountain “bluegrass explosion” Jeff Scroggins and Colorado; Edmonton’s finest  Kayla Hotte and Her Rodeo Pals, and Irvin Amundson’s Sunday Morning Gospel. The festival also features many great local acts who perform in between main stage acts.

Camping is free and included with every weekend pass. Rustic camping (for RVs and tents, no electricity) included, with on-site food and merchandise vendors.  Hourly door prizes (swag, CD’s, and more!), and a silent auction with amazing packages such as VIP golf packages from Elk Ridge Resort, Guitar Packages from Long & McQuade (Toronto), STC bus packages, ‘Rider Jerseys, and so much more! 100% of proceeds go directly into making Northern Lights one of the best music festival and music education workshops in Canada. Festival ticket information is available here.

Northern Lights Bluegrass and Old Tyme Music Festival hosts an all ages music camp following the festival, August 15th to 19th with instruction provided by the festival’s main stage acts. Camp registration information is available here.

Whether folks are new to an instrument – or are a skilled picker wanting some high-level learning – our music camp is an amazing opportunity for music students to learn our style of music from some of the world’s best. There are a few openings remaining in banjo, mandolin, dobro and bass.
