Phillip was a very loving, caring and thoughtful man. He was a great wood worker and had made a few pieces of furniture for his children and wife. He was an avid reader and spent many hours on the computer reading novels from his favorite authors. He loved watching curling championships on tv as much as he could and also, watched golfing tournaments.
Phil began his career with the government in the early 1970’s as an equipment operator with the Department of Northern Saskatchewan (DNS) based in Beauval. He was responsible for the maintenance of Beauval, Patuanak, Ille A La Crosse, Buffalo Narrows and La Loche Airports and also the ice roads to Dillon and Patuanak. In the 1980 & 90’s Phil was the Area Manager for the Ministry of Highways in Buffalo Narrows and was responsible for the area from Beauval to Cluff Lake. In the later years of his career, he was based in Prince Albert and was instrumental in developing a Maintenance Management Program for Highways and was the Area Manager for the Athabasca area from Wollaston Lake to Uranium City. One of his responsibilities was constructing and maintaining the ice roads in the Athabasca area. Safety was a huge part in Phils work and he was key in developing an ice road maintenance manual, which is still used today. Phil loved working in the north and was only out of sorts when he had to go south for meetings!
