Living Sky audited for mental health intervention services performance
The Living Sky School Division has been reevaluating its practices following a provincial audit of their intervention services for students with mental health concerns.
Provincial Auditor, Tara Clemett, made seven recommendations after finding there were problems with how the board addressed best practices.
According to a recent OurSCHOOL student survey, 32 per cent of those in Grades 7 to 12 experienced moderate or high levels of anxiety and depression, which was higher than the national average of 26 per cent.
“Poor mental health can negatively impact student engagement and academic achievement as well as affect student vulnerability to other at-risk behaviours such as substance abuse, suicide and violence,” Clemett said.
