Victor John Cookman was born on Jul 22, 1927, on the homestead northwest of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan where his parents Henry Arnold and Isabelle Taylor Cookman and his grandparents lived. Life on the farm was hard work for his parents and seven siblings but there was always fun, love and laughter after a hard day’s work. He met and married my mom Eileen Fay who was visiting from Gravelbourg.  Dad was always up for his favorite sport of fishing on the lakes of northern Saskatchewan.  He would fish with his siblings, family members and good friends and anyone who would go in the boat with him.  Every day at our Greig Lake cabin, the day would begin with dad looking out of the window to see if the weather would allow a good fishing day. Dad and Mom were married for almost 70 years before Mom passed away in 2022. Dad had many different job when he was younger. He helped farmers take off their crops, worked in a mine, drove an oil truck to northern Saskatchewan for years before he started working for Pioneer Grain. Dad was a grain buyer for many years and then was promoted to district manager. He retired after 25 years at Pioneer Grain. Dad loved being a father, grandfather and great grandfather and he had an amazing amount of energy for his grandchildren and great grandchildren. After he retired, he volunteered at the Western Development Museum in the carpentry shop for 30 years where he made many new friends. When Mom, Eileen  passed away, he stayed in their home for several years. In 2023, he made the big decision to sell the house and to move into Preston Park Two, where he met so many wonderful new friends. He had lots of fun there being a prankster, playing cards, and participating in all the activities. Unfortunately, he was diagnosed with cancer last Spring. When his health failed, he spent his last month at The Hospice at Glengarda where he received wonderful and compassionate care.  He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Isabella Cookman and siblings, Sid Cookman, Pearl Wilson, and Stanley Cookman. He will be sadly missed by his daughter and son in law, Leila and Dr. Steven Goluboff, granddaughters Sarah Goluboff (Donnie Munro), Shaina Goluboff ( Adam Hnatyshyn), and great grandchildren Skyler, Cohen, Goldie, Sawyer and Piper, sisters Violet Drumheller, Marjorie Fay and brothers Norman and Les Cookman and numerous nieces and nephews.  A good man with a big heart will be sadly missed by family and friends. Donations in his memory can be made to the Western Development Museum, Saskatoon City Hospital Foundation or the Hospice at Glengarda.
