CFL Needs to Look at Reffing to Improve the Game

After the CFL dropped a bombshell on their fans with changing field size to improve the game, this past weekend showed maybe if the league invested in refereeing and their nexus of confusion called a command center, they might get the sort of entertainment they think an American sized field can buy them.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders 27-25 loss to the Edmonton Elk was not as close as the score would indicate, but it continued a pattern that suggests maybe next year the Riders should decline bye weeks since it takes them so long to get rolling.
The Riders have been underwhelming coming off bye weeks and in their last few games have regressed into an offense that feels disjointed, confused and only active in the last few minutes of a game. One could argue with a bye week the team has their collective heads thinking of catching flights but here is an interesting kicker – if the Riders finish first, they will get another bye week before hosting the western final, where an impotent offense will not get them into a Grey Cup hosted by Stony Mountain.
