Canadian Yannick Gingras drives Sippinonsearoc to dramatic Crown victory
MILTON — A strong late kick earned Canadian Yannick Gingras and Sippinonsearoc a stirring win in the $822,000 three-year-old pacing colts and geldings final at the $10.1-million Breeders Crown on Saturday night.
After leading early, Sippinonsearoc was fourth with a quarter-mile remaining. But the horse found another gear on the inside, edging Dandy Ideal in a stakes-record time of 1:47.3 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
“The horse deserved a big win, he’s been knocking at the door,” said Gingras, a native of Sorel, Que. “He was beaten by a nose last year in the Breeders Crown.
“I’m so happy for him.”
