Victor Lutter

Victor Paul Lutter passed away on December 12, 2025, at the age of 82. He was born to Mary and Ludwig Lutter and spent his early years on the family homestead north of Goodsoil with his sister Frances and brother Herman. When the family moved south of town, the children walked to school in Peerless. They spoke German, but now learned English.

In 1968, Victor married Beverley, and together they raised four children while farming for 25 years. Farming was at the heart of who he was. He grew grain, raised pigs, and spent winters commercial ice fishing on Primrose Lake. In 1992, Vic began a second career as a Saskatchewan Crop Insurance adjuster. He started on August 22, the day after a foot of snow devastated crops across the region. Drawing on his own farming experience, he understood the challenges producers faced and enjoyed visiting and B.S.-ing with them. He worked as an adjuster for 22 years and valued the friendships he built with fellow adjusters and the staff at the Turtleford office.

Sports was another lifelong passion. As a young man, he played third base for several local baseball teams, before moving to slow pitch. He never missed a Blue Jays game or Hockey Night in Canada. He was a devout Oilers fan. When there were no sports to watch, there were cards to play. Kaiser, Schmeer, Schwick, and Schafkopf were his favourites, and he could be called “Kaiser King” because he so rarely lost a game.

Fishing remained one of Vic’s greatest joys. He was one of four men who built a trail into Costigan Lake in northern Saskatchewan, making annual June trips in search of big fish and even bigger stories. He also loved berry picking, whether gathering wild blueberries or caring for the 800 Saskatoon trees he and Bev planted later in life. Some of his happiest hours were spent outdoors, weeding with birds singing nearby and a cigarette in hand.

Above all, Victor will be remembered for his sense of humour. He was always teasing family and friends, always looking for a laugh. He leaves behind countless stories, treasured memories, and a family who loved him deeply.
