Saskatchewan Roughriders sign wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland and kicker Jonathan Kim

A pair of American players have been added to the Riders’ roster as the team looks to continue its winning ways in 2026.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders said American wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland is bringing four years of NFL experience with him as he joins the Green and White.

“He was selected by the Denver Broncos in the seventh round, 252nd overall, of the 2020 NFL Draft. He went on to play three seasons (2020-22) with the Club, suiting up for 23 regular season games and registering eight receptions for 91 yards, and 10 kickoff returns for 234 yards,” the Roughriders explained in a statement.

“After the Broncos, Cleveland spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles (2023) and the Indianapolis Colts (2024).”

As a college player, the 28-year-old Cleveland suited up for 46 games as a Florida Gator over four seasons, catching 79 passes for 1,271 yards and eight touchdowns, with an average of 16.1 yards per catch. He also returned 10 kickoffs for a total of 242 yards and a touchdown, while also receiving accolades for his special teams performance.

Meanwhile, after the release of long-serving kicker Brett Lauther this week, a new kicker is joining the Riders’ roster.

American kicker Jonathan Kim has signed with the Riders after a successful time at Michigan State. Last season, he signed with the Chicago Bears in the NFL as an undrafted free agent, joining the team for a portion of the 2025 training camp.

“As a senior at Michigan State in 2024, Kim made 19 of 21 field-goal attempts — a 90.5-per-cent accuracy rate — with the longest three-pointer being a 55-yarder,” the Riders said in a statement.

“He was 11-for-12 from 40 yards or more over the course of the season, with the lone miss being from 55. Kim also set a school record for field goals in a game (six) en route to being a Second-Team All-Big Ten selection in 2024.”

The 24-year-old kicker set the record for the longest field goal at the University of Iowa’s Kinnick Stadium when he sent a 58-yard kick through the uprights on Sept. 30, 2023, the Riders noted, and he graduated as Michigan State’s all-time leader in field goal percentage after making an impressive 82.1 per cent of his three-point attempts.
