Man faces 76 charges after string of break-ins across Saskatchewan

An arrest has been made after a string of robberies across the province. 

Saskatchewan RCMP’s South District Investigative Team, along with RCMP analysts, have charged a man following break-ins spanning from Hudson Bay to Torquay. 

A series of property crimes across the district spurred the investigation last May. 

There were 74 reports of break-ins in 43 communities that investigators believed were connected, between 2019 and this month. 

Police determined that a total of $50,000 had been stolen across the break-ins, along with debit and credit cards, gift cards, alcohol, antique coins, and other items.

Local businesses, town offices, post offices, community centres, and other buildings were broken into, though investigators are not aware of any homes suffering the same fate. 

The 57-year-old Regina man faces 62 counts of breaking and entering, 12 counts of attempting to break and enter with intent, one count of possession of property under $5,000 obtained by crime, and one count of possession of property over $5,000 obtained by crime. 

He will make his first court appearance in Regina on Wednesday. 

“At the core of this investigation are the communities who have been impacted. This may not be a violent crime, but it’s crime that is extremely damaging to those communities who lost valuables and funds and felt their safety has been compromised,” Inspector Jillian McLaren, Saskatchewan RCMP South District Operations Officer said in the RCMP news release. “I’m incredibly proud of the work done by our team for working together, connecting the dots, laying charges, and restoring a sense of security for these communities.”
