Woman’s death deemed suspicious on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation

Mar 18, 2026 | 3:34 PM

The death of a 51-year-old woman on Canoe Lake Cree First Nation is being deemed as suspicious, according to investigators.

Beauval RCMP received a report on March 16 that a seriously injured woman was being treated in a local hospital. The woman, who was not identified, succumbed to her injuries the following day.

In a statement issued Wednesday, police said the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Homicide Investigation Unit(HIU) has taken over the case, with assistance from North Battleford forensic identification services, the serious crimes unit, and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service.

“Initial investigation has determined the female’s death is suspicious in nature. HIU continues to investigate. As this is an active and ongoing investigation, we are unable to provide further details at this time,” the RCMP stated.

Police said there will be an increased presence in the community for an undetermined amount of time and adds the public will be notified if any imminent safety risks are identified.

Investigators are now asking anyone with information report it to HIU by calling police at 310-RCMP (7267). Information can also be submitted anonymously by contacting Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.saskcrimestoppers.com.
