Piercland RCMP have arrested and charged two men after a shooting on Big Island Cree Nation.

On April 8, around 1:50 p.m., RCMP received a report of a shooting. Officers determined that a man was walking on Big Island Cree Nation when a truck pulled up beside him. Two men inside the truck discharged a firearm, injuring the pedestrian. The truck then drove away. The injured man was taken to hospital by EMS with injuries described as non-life threatening.

RCMP searched the area and located a vehicle matching the truck’s description outside a residence on Big Island Cree Nation. Officers engaged Meadow Lake RCMP’s Crime Reduction Team, Traffic Services, and Police Dog Services to assist. Seven adults later exited the residence and were arrested by police.

As a result, 27-year-old Damon Kiseyinewakup and 31-year-old Sloane Ochuschayoo, both from Big Island Cree Nation, are charged with one count of discharging a firearm with intent, and one count of aggravated assault.
