Crime drops in first three months of 2026 in Lloydminster, RCMP report says

Apr 15, 2026 | 12:17 PM

Crime in Lloydminster fell sharply in the first three months of 2026, driven by a steep decline in property offences and vehicle thefts, according to a new RCMP report.

Total Criminal Code incidents dropped to 1,455 between January and March, down from 1,923 during the same period last year. Property crime fell to 790 from 1,257.

Vehicle thefts declined to 20 from 58 a year earlier, while break and enters dropped to 28 from 44.

“The fourth quarter saw continuing reductions in many categories of crime,” said Inspector Brian Nicholl.

“The Lloydminster RCMP has been employing various crime reduction initiatives and strategies along with proactive policing, and results of these efforts continue to be realized.”

Not all trends moved in the same direction. During the same period, reports of spousal abuse rose to 178 from 148, and charges under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act increased slightly to 49.

Police responded to 4,167 calls for service during the quarter, down 118 from the previous three months. The operations centre received 1,948 emergency calls, and officers laid 2,031 criminal and provincial charges.

Of those, 239 were for failing to comply with court orders, a figure similar to the same period last year.

False alarms and abandoned 911 calls also declined, allowing officers to focus on more serious incidents.

“I have to believe that vehicle owners are continuing to contribute in this category by better securing their vehicles and not leaving keys in vehicles which directly reduces the likelihood of vehicle theft,” Nicholl stated.

“This quarter again saw significant assistance from the residents of Lloydminster that allowed officers to lay criminal charges in many instances that without the information from the public, the crimes would have likely gone unsolved.”

Police said they will continue focusing on crime reduction efforts and are encouraging residents to report suspicious activity.

Anyone with information about suspicious activity can contact Lloydminster RCMP at 306-825-6350. Those wishing to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at www.P3Tips.com or through the “P3 Tips” app.
