Big Memories Start Small at the First‐Ever Equine Experience A Brand‐New, Hands‐On Horse Event Gallops into Prairieland May 2 & 3

A brand‐new equine event is making its debut in Saskatoon this spring, and it’s designed to be as welcoming as it is exciting.

The Equine Experience, happening May 2 and 3 at Prairieland Ag Center, is a first‐of‐its‐kind event that brings together hands‐on horse encounters, live demonstrations, youth programming, and practical learning — all for just $10 per person per day.

Created to spark curiosity, build confidence, and open doors into the horse world, The Equine Experience is especially aimed at families, youth, and urban audiences who may not have regular access to horses — but have always been fascinated by them.

“This is a brand‐new experience for our city,” says Prairieland Agriculture Manager Leigh Ann Hurlburt. “It’s about creating moments — especially for kids — where learning feels exciting, horses feel approachable, and a new passion can begin.”

A Full Weekend of Discovery: As the inaugural Equine Experience, the event packs an impressive range of activities into two action‐filled days, including:

  • Hands‐on equine encounters where kids can bond, brush, and lead a horse in a safe, supportive environment
  • Youth riding demonstrations and lesson showcases, including Pee Wee and L’il Britches classes
  • Barrel racing in action, highlighting the preparation, training, and decision‐making behind the sport
  • Practical horsemanship sessions focused on confidence, safety, and communication
  • Introductory carriage driving presentations, from harnessing to handling
  • Veterinary‐led talks covering emergency preparedness, recognizing pain, and caring for senior horses
  • Live clinics that spectators can watch and audit, learning directly from experienced clinicians in real time

From quiet, meaningful moments in the barn to high‐energy action in the arena, there is always something happening — and something new to learn.
