Sask. invests $5.9M in Lloydminster Hospital exterior upgardes

The Saskatchewan government is investing $5.9 million to upgrade the exterior of Lloydminster Hospital, with work expected to be completed by October 2027.

The project will renew the hospital’s building envelope in two phases, including replacing exterior materials and improving insulation to enhance durability, safety and energy efficiency.

“This work to upgrade the exterior of our hospital is a sign of the Government of Saskatchewan’s commitment to health care for Lloydminster and area residents,” Lloydminster MLA Colleen Young said in a release issued Friday.

“This work ensures that the hospital can continue to provide a safe, well-maintained environment for patients.”

Phase one will involve removing exterior brick, rewrapping the building and adding new insulation. Phase two will include installing metal siding and replacing about 180 windows to strengthen the structure and improve long-term performance.

Mayor Gerald Aalbers said the upgrades will also improve how the facility is experienced by patients and visitors.

“This investment in the exterior renovations at Lloydminster Hospital is a critical step to protect the hospital infrastructure in our community,” he stated.

“First impressions matter, and improvements like these help create a more welcoming and reassuring environment for patients, hospital staff, and visitors as they arrive.”

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) said the work will focus on renewing essential infrastructure while improving safety and functionality.

The project builds on other recent and ongoing upgrades at the hospital, including completed elevator improvements and the installation of a new bulk oxygen tank. Work is also underway on new chillers, with completion expected by June 2026.

Additional projects include loading dock upgrades, a bariatric room renovation and plans for a new healing and quiet space for patients and families.
