Peak-hour traffic stop leads to arrest in Lloydminster robbery case

A man accused of a violent vehicle robbery was arrested during a coordinated police stop in Lloydminster during peak traffic hours.

The incident began in the early morning hours of April 29 in the Rural Municipality of Britannia, where a robbery occurred between two individuals known to each other. 

Police said a male suspect, armed with a weapon, assaulted the victim and stole his car. 

At about 5 p.m. that day, officers located the vehicle near 36 Street and 52 Avenue and conducted a coordinated traffic stop, safely arresting the man believed to be connected to the robbery.  

The arrest involved support from Alberta RCMP’s Real Time Operation Centre, the Lloydminster RCMP General Investigation Section and Police Dog Services.  

A 38-year old man from Lloydminster, has been charged with robbery and use of a forged document.  

He appeared before a justice and was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Saskatchewan provincial court in Lloydminster on May 4.  

“This police investigation remains ongoing,” the RCMP stated.
