Connaught experiences 1 in 200-year flood, limited evacuations may be needed
The RM of Connaught has been hard hit by spring runoff this year and is now warning that some residents may need to be evacuated.
Both Connaught and its northern/eastern neighbour, the RM of Arborfield have declared emergencies as has the Town of Arborfield.
The Water Security Agency (WSA) said the Carrot River, Tisdale area and the Quill Lakes have not seen the worst of it yet.
“Flows on the Carrot River near Kinistino, Armley, Smoky Burn, and Turnberry continue to rise, with further increases expected. Current inflows in this system range from approximately a one in 25-year event near Smoky Burn to a one in 200-year event near Armley,” said WSA spokesperson Leah Clark during a technical briefing Monday at noon.
