RCMP locate, arrest wanted Edmonton man after warrant, police chase

A man wanted on multiple charges following a police pursuit last week has been arrested on a First Nation in northwestern Saskatchewan.

Loon Lake RCMP said 31-year-old Joshua Clarke was arrested Thursday on Mudie Lake First Nation with assistance from the Meadow Lake Crime Reduction Team and Meadow Lake Police Dog Services.

Clarke had been wanted on a warrant after a May 21 incident on Island Lake First Nation that led to a multi-unit police response and an extensive search.

RCMP said officers were responding to a report of an erratic driver when they located an SUV with two occupants. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

Officers deployed a tire deflation device on Highway 21, which the SUV struck. The vehicle later stopped, and the driver fled into a wooded area. A passenger was arrested at the scene and later released without charge.

Saskatchewan RCMP Police Dog Services tracked the suspect for about 11 kilometres, and aerial support was provided by Pierceland RCMP using a remotely piloted aircraft system, but the driver was not located at the time.

Following the investigation, RCMP issued a warrant for Clarke and laid several charges, including flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and failing to comply with a release order.

Clarke is also facing a charge of resisting arrest in connection with a separate investigation.

Police had previously asked the public to report sightings of Clarke before he was located and arrested.

He was scheduled to appear in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Thursday afternoon.
