Sceptres sign Fast, Kirk to three-year contract ahead of PWHL expansion process

Jun 3, 2026 | 1:02 PM

TORONTO — The Toronto Sceptres have re-signed defender Renata Fast and goaltender Raygan Kirk to contracts through the 2028-29 season, the Professional Women’s Hockey League team announced Wednesday.

Fast and Kirk are two of the Sceptres’ three protected players under the PWHL’s expansion process ahead of next season.

Fast became the second defender in PWHL history to reach 45 career points after putting up 10 points (one goal, nine assists) in 26 games in 2025-26. She was named the 2024-25 PWHL Defender of the Year, and that season was the first defender to be named a finalist for the Billie Jean King MVP Award.

The 31-year-old from Burlington, Ont., helped Canada win Olympic gold in 2022 and silver in 2018 and 2026.

Kirk had a record of eight wins, eight regulation losses, three overtime losses and three shootout losses in her sophomore season in 2025-26.

She has a 1.87 goals-against average, a .934 save percentage and three shutouts.

Existing PWHL teams had until Wednesday evening to finalize their protected lists before the four new clubs in Hamilton, Detroit, San Jose and Vegas begin signing their foundational players.
