Charged with murder

Cody Chubey trial to resume in October in Melfort

Jul 10, 2026 | 10:46 AM

The Cody Chubey murder trial in Melfort will resume in October.

The defense had asked for an adjournment at Chubey’s trial at Court of King’s Bench last month for ‘mental element’, and it was granted.

The Crown, defense, and Justice Sean Sinclair held a conference call to iron out the details of the trial’s resumption, and it was decided it will resume Oct. 7.

The defense is expected to tender expert evidence as to the state of the accused’s state of mind during the time of the murder.

The Crown had wrapped up their case prior to the adjournment.

Chubey was charged with murder in the death of his long-time partner Danielle Dobersheck at the Carra Valla Inn in Melfort in March of 2024.

Danielle’s father, Darris Dobersheck, told northeastNOW after the adjournment was granted that the delay was frustrating for the family.

“I just would have liked to have seen some kind of finalization,” Dobersheck said outside of court on June 10. “It seems like we’re not any closer to finalizing this.”

Dobersheck’s family and former co-workers at North East Outreach and Support Services made up the bulk of the gallery at the trial.
