Debra Ruth Moen was born on August 8, 1967, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, to Ronald & Rosemary Moen. Soon after, at the age of 2, her family moved to the farm near Colonsay. As a farm girl, she grew up with a love for horses and farm life. She attended Viscount School and was involved in many clubs and activities, including sewing and Light Horsemanship in the Viscount 4H Club, piano lessons, volleyball, basketball, track and figure skating, which she coached in high school. She also attended youth group and sang in church choir. At home, she was a loving sister to her younger sister Rebecca and her older brother Doug.

After graduating from Viscount High School in the class of 1985, she moved to Saskatoon to attend the University of Saskatchewan. During this time, she worked and studied hard, working at the Youth for Christ group home. She would often reflect on the time she spent doing her sister’s hair for dance and the sewing business she and a friend had started. This was also when she attended the college and career group where she met the love of her life, Tyler Coupland. After university, she continued her studies at Briercrest Bible College in Caronport, Saskatchewan, where she obtained a post-graduate certificate. From a young age and throughout her life, she was passionately involved in the church, street ministry and missions.

On June 6, 1992, she married Tyler Jay Coupland at Christian Fellowship Church in Lanigan, Saskatchewan, and the couple moved to Tyler’s hometown of Meadow Lake. There she did contract work for Social Services, worked for the Early Childhood Intervention Program and taught at the Gabriel Dumont College for a time. Tyler worked as a youth pastor for the Evangelical Free Church. This fulfilled one of her childhood dreams of being married to a youth pastor.

They later moved back to Saskatoon, where they worked at the Carmel House, a group home for troubled teens. Soon after their move, they welcomed their first baby, Silas J. Coupland and 21 months later, their second son, Caleb Shawn Coupland. She and her sister were pregnant at the same time during Debra’s second and Rebecca’s first, and they often joked about giving birth on the same day, but this is exactly what happened. They found themselves in the university hospital on the same day, in the same hallway, both with new baby boys. When Silas was 3, and Caleb was 1, Debra and Tyler moved to Durban, South Africa, where they were Missionaries and worked at a Bible School. Here Debra fulfilled another lifetime goal of being a missionary to Africa. After returning from the mission field, the family moved back to Meadow Lake, where they planted their church, Meadow Lake Bridge Ministries, in 2003. 2 years later, they welcomed their third and final child, Shelby Elise Coupland. Debra faithfully pastored alongside her Husband for 23 years, and also returned to work for the Early Childhood Services as Executive Director. Over the years, Debra became a very important member of the community. Outside of work and church, Debra enjoyed many hobbies, including solving puzzles, sewing, fishing and gardening. One of her greatest joys in life was teaching Sunday school and being with her church family. She was also passionate about the Ministikwan youth and children’s camp as well as the youth group she started only 3 years ago.

In 2016, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and given a maximum of 5 years to live. Soon after, she had a major surgery and recovered miraculously, surpassing her prognosis. Debra lived a life marked by adventure and ministry; she travelled to Israel, India, Mexico, Guatemala, the U.K, Barbados and various places in the United States and Canada. In 2017, Debra and Tyler joined the Chariots of Light motorcycle club, and Deb found herself riding all over western Canada on the back of a Harley, sharing Jesus with people along the way. In 2022, the cancer returned, and she began chemotherapy. Debra retired from her position as Executive Director in 2023, a job that she dearly loved. In March of 2025, she underwent a 2nd surgery but was able to attend her daughter’s Bible College graduation in June of that same year. Just before Debra’s passing, she had the opportunity to attend her daughter’s wedding and give a speech. She also got to see her son, Silas, complete his Red Seal in the automotive technician trade. She was so proud of Silas that she got a copy of his certificate to keep and display in their house. In her last few weeks of life, she defied expectations and travelled, by van, to Montreal for her daughter’s 2nd wedding reception, where she again gave a speech. She passed on to heaven on Tuesday, July 21st at the age of 58, in the Meadow Lake hospital. Debra was a loving mother, devoted pastor, and an adventurer who lived life to the fullest. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Tyler Coupland; her 3 children, Silas, Caleb, and Shelby; her siblings Doug and Rebecca; and her numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
