Highway 17 upgrades completed between Lloydminster, Onion Lake

Work on the project began in Aug. 2025, with highway construction recently completed. Motorists travelling on the upgraded roadway may still notice equipment along the route as crews clean up ditches and complete other finishing work.

The Government of Saskatchewan led the project, with the Government of Alberta funding half of the costs. Highway 17 runs north-south along the Saskatchewan-Alberta boundary.

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways is also investing in several other projects in west-central Saskatchewan.

Petrofka Bridge east of the Battlefords

An estimated $350,000 in repair work on Highway 12 at the North Saskatchewan River crossing is expected to begin later this month and be completed in late fall.

Traffic will be reduced to a single, 3.5-metre-wide lane during construction. Truck loads will also be restricted during phases of the work.

Trans-Canada Yellowhead Highway 16 near Maymont

The estimated $4.4-million project will resurface about 11 kilometres of the eastbound lanes of Highway 16. Work began July 27 and is expected to be completed by the end of August.

About $6.6 million was invested to resurface more than 15 kilometres of the eastbound lanes of Highway 16, from the Lashburn access to the Marshall access. The project began in spring 2026 and has since been completed.

Highway 51 near Biggar

An estimated $15.9 million will be invested in subgrade construction on Highway 51 near Biggar. The project stretches from the junction of highways 51 and 4 to about 24 kilometres west.

Construction began in 2025 and is expected to be completed in fall 2026. The surfacing work will be completed under a separate contract expected to begin in 2027.

Highway 312 near Wakaw

The estimated $2-million project included 100 metres of resurfacing following work to repair and stabilize a sloped area affected by slumping on Highway 312, about 12 kilometres west of its eastern junction with Highway 2. Construction began this spring and was completed in June.

An estimated $12 million is expected to be invested this year in routine maintenance in west-central Saskatchewan. The work includes short-term projects, typically completed within one or two days, such as road surface patching, gravel blading, dust control, crack sealing, sand sealing and other minor pavement repairs.

With this year’s budget, the Government of Saskatchewan said it has invested more than $14.6 billion in transportation infrastructure since 2008, improving more than 22,700 kilometres of highways across the province.
