Wheelchair Basketball Canada names women’s, men’s rosters for worlds in Ottawa

OTTAWA — Wheelchair Basketball Canada has announced its women’s and men’s rosters for the upcoming world championships in Ottawa.
The women’s side will have veterans Kady Dandeneau, Melanie Hawtin, Puisand Lai, Tara Llanes, Cindy Ouellet, Tamara Steeves, Élodie Tessier and Arinn Young return from the fourth-place Paralympic team in 2024. Elise Froese, Rosie Long, Mercy Nyakundi and Bethany Johnson were also named to the team.
Canada placed fifth at the 2022 championships and last stood on the podium in 2014 when the women won gold in Toronto.
On the men’s side, there are seven returnees from both the Paralympic Games and 2022 worlds: Reed De’Aeth, Nik Goncin, Colin Higgins, Lee Melymick, Tyler Miller, Blaise Mutware and Garrett Ostepchuk. They are joined by Josh Brown, Ibrahim Odza, Kyrell Sopotyk, Lionel Tamoki and Brandon Louie.
