“Transportation becomes a challenge because they all have to get volunteers with vehicles and people willing to take the time to transport them and that’s a big ask for anybody. There were golfers that drove from Manitoba, Alberta, one couple even drove from British Columbia. The rest of the people flew into Saskatoon and Chris arranged transportation.”

Villeneuve said the blind golf community feels like one big family, with many participants having known each other for decades.

“We support each other in a way that I’ve never seen in any other sport,” he said. “We brought our friends from the blind golf community to meet our friends in the community of Meadow Lake and to see that bonding and people getting along and it was just amazing. It was an amazing experience, a once in a lifetime thing and I’m glad to be part of it.”

With the time and coordination required to arrange transportation, volunteers, accommodations and the tournament itself, they said bringing everyone together each year would take a significant commitment.

For now, however, the pair are happy with how the inaugural event came together and the connections it created between the blind golf community and Meadow Lake.
