Military Time edges Brachetto to win Prince of Wales Stakes
FORT ERIE — Military Time overtook Brachetto just before the wire to claim the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes on Monday.
Jockeyed by 22-year-old Fraser Aebly, Military Time raced in third for most of the way before surging past Brachetto and Keepmypowderdry near the finish at the Fort Erie Racetrack.
“He was fighting for me the whole race, it was crazy,” said a jubilant Aebly after the race.
The second jewel in the Canadian Triple Crown, this year’s Prince of Wales Stakes had fans on the edge of their seats right to the last second. The field of eight stuck close together, but there were three across the front at the top of the stretch all fighting for the lead. Military Time, Brachetto and Keepmypowderdry were all fair contenders, but it was Military Time who found the extra speed and proved best, winning in 1.56.
