Lloydminster RCMP warn against online rumours after false incident
Lloydminster RCMP are warning about the consequences of spreading unverified information on social media after rumours prompted more than 50 calls to police following a lockdown Wednesday at Lloydminster Comprehensive High School.
The incident began on the morning of Oct. 7 when two students reported seeing what they believed was a firearm in another student’s pocket.
The school was immediately placed under lockdown as officers responded to a potential active threat.
With assistance from school staff, police located the student in a classroom and took them into custody within nine minutes of the initial 911 call. Officers then checked for other possible threats before lifting the lockdown.
