On October 17, 2026, Michael “Mick” Lazar passed away peacefully, aged 85, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

He will be dearly missed and remembered by his wife, Gaylene; sons, Jason (Nicole) and Tyler; grandchildren, Zoe, Helen, Gavin and Desmond; and sister, Annette (Emil) Klassen. He was predeceased by his son, Curtis (Joanne); and brothers, Henri, Denyss, and Richard.

Michael excelled at everything he did, whether it was his 43-year banking career, building first-rate classical guitars for clients around the world, or being a husband and father. A true Renaissance man, he was as much at ease working with his hands as with his mind, his passions running from woodworking to science fiction, from music to World War I aviation. His travels with his family, one of his greatest joys, took him to all seven continents.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Albert Catholic Parish, 7 St. Vital Ave, St. Albert, AB, on October 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alberta SPCA.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Foyer Lacombe for their exceptional care and compassion.
